peps given the excitement over the video earlier what is your favourite non-jisung bug
HELL YEAH!!! that's what i'm talking about!!!
busted out my illustrated insects encyclopedia for this bc 1) idk that i can remember all the names in english 2) i'm too excited and i don't want to forget any kjfsdjlfsd
idk that i could say i have one favorite bug. It feels wrong... what if i say that the dragonfly is my fav? what will the stick bug think????? cruel. can't do this to my buddies. So. In no particular order, here are a few that i really like in certain orders:
there is also the atalophlebia a kind of mayfly found in australia! would love to see one bc their bodies are comically small compared to their "tails" and paws?? sorry i'm too excited skdjfsdfjhsdf i don't remember words and there is a book right next to me.
dragonflies:
HELL YEAH WITCHES!!!!
first of br has one of if not the most diversity when it comes to dragonflies in the world!! grew up surrounded by these delights. i honestly don't even know their specific names in pt sdkjfsdfjsd my job since i was a kid was to gently remove them from inside the car or what not bc my mom is afraid of them. can you believe it??? those BEAUTIES!!! but anyway.
scarlet dragonfly -> obviously! i mean, cmon!!! red af, never seen one irl, but their bodies are THICK! and they are RED!!! BRIGHT RED!!!
green darner -> was the one i saw the most when i lived in the US!! perks of living near a big river and lots of lakes hehe solid dragonfly. very pretty.
damselflies:
EVEN BETTER MY DUDE!!
tiny little stick bitches, i love them. lots of people get them confused with dragonflies, but they are more... delicate? daintier?
azure damselflies -> i would LOVE to see these in person!!! they look so cool!!!
ebony jewelwing -> bro. if i ever catch one of these (metaphorically)... METALLIC SHEEN!!!!!!!! must. friends is eastern north america. pls. find them. appreciate them
mantids:
when i say hell YEAH! i mean it. also!!! i need to be stopped. pls tell me that i can't tattoo multiple species of praying mantis on my body. now. tell me NO. NOW! TOO LATE I'LL DO IT
"dragon mantis" -> idk man i'm literally translating at this point. but they look SO COOL! and admittedly a bit scary?? they originate from the atlantic forest in south east brazil, so, they are very rare to spot since most of the forest has been destroyed and a very sad percentage of the natural/original forest still exists.
giant mantis -> surprisingly, not the longest mantis in brazil skfjdsjfs but the biggest hehe
orchid mantis -> tripping how much it looks like an actual orchid. would LOVE to see one!!!
grasshoppers:
fun fact: i used to be legit scared of the bc of Bug's Life, that animated movie. poor grasshoppers, they got a bad reputation bc of ants :/ they are hella ugly in the best way possible. the uglier (societal perception of it) the insect, the more i like it.
green fool grasshopper -> when i was a little pepper, freshly settled in the USA, i first heard of this and i thought it was just someone who didn't like grasshoppers. but NO!!! this bitch exists and I NEVER SAW IT!!!! it looks so silly, the legs are too big for its balance. precious thing. i'll see you some day.
crickets:
surprisingly based on the things i've said so far, i don't have much of an opinion on crickets. they are there. they sound nice (yes, i like it). i'm here. i don't mind.
mountain katydid -> i learned about this one when i got the encyclopedia and i haven't stopped thinking about it since. the drawing looks EVIL!!! in a good way. 10/10 for the spooks.
stick and leaf insects:
OKAY OKAY HERE WE ARE!!!! the first time i held a stick bug, i was four, and, as tale has it, i tried to take it home with me from the woods. Mother wasn't appreciative of my efforts. I love when insects camouflage but looking like things they aren't is my fav. like, why are you out there looking like a stick?? do it again!!! fuck yeah!!!
tbh im terrible with their distinct names and i had to move the encyclopedia bc i needed to do some work (boooooo) and i'm too lazy to get it now. maybe for the next insects sdfjskdfs BUT i'm a stick (literally) enthusiast. Sure, the ones that look like leaves are cool! yeah! for sure! BUT IF IT LOOKS LIKE A TINY TREE BRANCH AND IT MOVES, NOTHING WILL BE COOLER THAN THAT!!!!!!!!!!
bugs:
idk man, what can i say.... i just love a little bug. a little something something.
cicadas -> idk which. all of them. HELL YEAH CICADAS!!!! they are thick babies, big-eyed and their exoskeleton is scary af. there is also that one species that resurfaces every 30 years and they literally emerge to sing and fuck. hell yeah.
bed bugs -> HEAR ME OUT!!! it's not that i like them per se bc i don't want these bitches anywhere near me. but you have to admit that it IS ballsy to be tiny as fuck and be a big bother.
love bug -> they are faux romantic. they find their partner, mate for life. but like. technically it's only 2-ish days? they meet, mate, and then when the female is fully fertilized, she DIES. bitchass patriarchal bug. but also. strangely sweet. fight me on that (pls don't, i'm a cry baby)
assassin bug -> fucking love australia. i know nothing but the name of this bug and what it looks like, but do i have to know anything to know it fucks???? ASSASSIN BUG!!!! THE NAME ITSELF IS COOL AS HELL
beetles:
all of them. hit me up. i love a beetle. idc if they are scary, loud, strange. HIT ME UP!!! all the beetles. they are all special and beautiful and perfect. again. YES. even the scary ones.
fireflies -> let's make one thing clear: i wrote records off you and me primarily bc of the bugs and secondarily bc of minsung (lies). but like. how can someone not adore fireflies dude. they GLOW!!! not only that, but they are also like, so boring skjfdsjkfs how can a beetle be simultaneously the most exciting creature that literally GLOWS while also being the most basic beetle? respect. love you my dearest. (also minho thinks jisung is a firefly. go read records of you and me to figure out why)
i'm skipping flies bc otherwise i'll fall down the mosquito rabbit hole and y'all don't need me to rant about them. folks who live where seasons are a thing: i have mosquitoes year-round and there is always the threat of dengue, remember that there is always someone more fucked than you. I also do that by remembering that at least i don't live by the rainforest.
butterflies and moths:
first of all: they are fairies. idc what you say, idc if you think i'm stupid. but they are. coolest mfs out there!!! from a little caterpillar to this majestic being? GORGEOUS??? amazing. no notes.
monarch -> ok. i know it's basic. but it's attached to childhood memories!! in my kindergarten school, there was a tree where we would find a LOT of caterpillars and butterflies. We, silly kids, used to take them and pet them. Each had a name. I remembered it so well, that i've had to ask my parents to confirm that this is in fact a memory and not part of me being insane.
captain of the woods butterfly -> tbh that's what we call it in pt skdjfsdkjf but honestly, very few things are as swoon worthy as seeing it flying.
bees:
ALL OF THEM!!! BEETLES AND BEES DESERVE EVERYTHING!! GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY, YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bumblebee -> fluffiest, cutest, most adorable bee.
honey bee -> thank you for your service
africanized bees -> i'm sorry for people making you the villain. i'll embrace you mentally from a safe distance bc i don't want you to get mad.
also going to spare everyone of my ant rant bc oh. i love ants. my [redacted] and i used to watch yt videos of a guy who had a bunch of terrariums just for his ants and it was cool af. actually. i'll stop yapping all together ksdfkjsdfs if anyone read through the end: thank you, i appreciate you baring with me and my bug rant :]
p.s: if you were wondering. jisung thinks minho is a nocturnal dragonfly. go read records of you and me to find out why hehe
