apr. 23 '26 — 1 week! (see note)
hello all. I have news!
It is time for some Philosophy 101 Nonsense!
Do you see yourself as ever-changing? Whether you do or not, do you like the way you view yourself in this regard?
Heraclitus famously says "you cannot step twice into the same river". Meaning, as one could assume, the River is ever-changing, and life is about flow, and change.
Although, in reality, this is Plato's quoting. What Heraclitus actually said—"On those stepping into rivers staying the same other and other waters flow."—carries a bit of a different meaning.
Plato had said Heraclitus claims "all things change, and nothing stays". This adds up, reading Plato's misquote of his, but not so much with Heraclitus' actual word.
The point is clearer. It is not that all changes and nothing stays, but that the change of the "waters flow" is what keeps the river "staying the same". The river you step into is changing, yes, but it is in its nature, for it would not be a river without the changing water.
At least this is what I believe. Now, if you cared to read all of that, in addition to the original question, I ask: which way do you prefer thinking about it? (the world, or identity?) Would you prefer to think of the universal flux, all changing, or in the familiarity of change?
Note: It's been one week since i started asking stuff again. I'm not too big on milestones, but i figured a bit of self indulging is FINE. after all, um...who cares!

hello all,
do you like to remember? what is your 'life': the past, the future, or the present? (or, you know...all three? just two?) then, how about planning?
(so, is the past you the "most" you, are your your actions, or is the future you the "most" you, and you are your change?)
if so, what parts do you like to remember? (conceptually or literally) is it hard—for you to remember? or do you find it all hard to forget?
DUDE WHAT A COINCIDENCE. i literally ended up on one of your rentries while url surfing last night (/jess) i am weirdly overjoyed this is so cool

hello all,
do you read magazines? if so, do you BUY magazines? they're sort of expensive these days, where i live. what about the newspaper, do you read or buy them?
some people collect magazines i think. that's what i guess would be the most common reason people buy them, lately.

hello all,
i was intending on waiting longer until i got into elaborate hypotheticals, but had an "argument" of sorts, and would like more opinions.
um, just in case, a fair warning: this hypothetical involves death, and in a relatively implied graphic sense. also i think suicide in a way. sorry.
nowww.
lets say you are going to be killed. it is going to happen.
either by the hands of a stranger, or someone you love, that loves you too. another stranger will die as well, so there are 4 people involved: two people (stranger to you) who are related somehow, and you and your person, also related in some way obviously.
your person has two choices: killing a stranger, or killing you. if they pick the stranger, the stranger's person will kill you instead. so, again, you're going to die. either at the hands of a stranger, or someone you...probably love.
who would you prefer your loved one choose? a stranger, to make it easier for themselves, perhaps, or you, so you don't die at the hands of someone you don't even know?
really, i'm just asking: do you think death can be honourable. if yes, would you like someone you love to honour you? or would you not want to put it on them? is death something to get over with, or something that's supposed to be sad, and supposed to weigh on us. that's what...i'm...getting at here.
feel free to ask questions if you're curious, i've been talking about this for far too long, and certainly have answers to questions. i've made a diagram that could help: https://i.postimg.cc/W3mFLNyC/oh-boy.png
i do not think even 4 of you will read this. but it has to be out there. fun fact! this question originates with a debate about naming cows. this is so stupid
i would rather be with my loved one on either side of the gun. primarily for two reasons
1. i would trust their intentions far more. being killed by a stranger, while i Know their situation, i feel like i would knowww.. that my death wouldn't be for nothing on a much deeper/internal level if i was killed by someone who loved me.
2. we talked about this earlier and i really agree with you so im mentioning it again. my loved one will know who they're killing! that's so much easier to make terms with
but, on the other hand, do i really.. want to make a stranger kill their loved one? what if they think differently? what if it'd be harder for them to kill their loved one than it would be a stranger?
this is just such a personal question. there are so many different perspectives to consider. i be considering a lot. why cant the stranger pick. the cow question was easier

hello all,
do you seek new people? if you're contented with your social circle, you could very understandbly not just NOT seek people, but hope people don't seek you.
so, then, do you like being approached by strangers, by future friends? do you like the process of getting to know people?
in a sense.. i love talking to people, but i'm not very interested in building connections. i often seek people though! i talk to like everyone. back in the days when i had internet and car keys i talked to absolutely everyone i saw..
so i guess i am content with my social circle. i don't have many people who i'm friends with, but i make up for it by having many one-time conversations in my daily life

hello all,
do you like being known? who are you more comfortable with: the familiar, or the stranger?
