So that line - 'You dropped your forgiveness, Will. You forgive how God forgives' I know Hannibal is being sarcastic and calling Will out on his bluff.
But it got me thinking about the actual differences between human and divine forgiveness.
For me, human forgiveness usually requires the other person to ask for it. Once you give it, there's this expectation that they'll change and not do it again. And if they mess up again, that forgiveness kind of gets taken back. Plus, humans forgive cuz it gives us peace -it's almost selfish in a way.
But God's forgiveness is already there before you even speak. You don't have to earn it. He doesn't forgive you cuz he expects you to be better tomorrow -he knows you'll do some mistake again. But that doesn't mean you escape consequences on earth.
Your soul is saved, but you still have to deal with the fallout here.
Those are the differences that stand out to me. But I feel like there's so much more to it- like memory, emotion, finality, all of that. What other differences do you see between human and God's forgiveness?
Sorry it took so long for me to respond, I've been sick, on top of a lot of other things... But that aside-
First, I personally don't believe in "God" I consider myself an Omnist (or even a borderline Atheist).. but I will never hack on anyone else who believes. I believe that anyone has a right to believe in anything that gives them hope and direction.
As for forgiveness... I fear I'd be too opinionated too give a true stating on "God's forgiveness"... For I do not see it. I never have. (The whole concept of Heavenliness is very... Foreign to me.. Mythical and fabricated)
Anyways.. for me, my forgiveness doesn't need someone to ask for it first.
I forgive anyways because it's harder on ME if I don't. I allow them more space in my head when I don't forgive them. And forgiveness doesn't always constitute forgetting.. but if it is bad enough.. I forget on purpose. They become a waste of breath and space.. but for someone to get to that point with me.. that would be them ruining multiple chances of the forgiveness I gave them.
