I'm the anon who talks about the mirror scene. Anyway, I also want to say how great it was that you put Yudai's phone call with Taki's mom in perspective: that he would sell his soul to kick off the domino of his debut. Going a bit meta, I think its an interesting look at idols' psyche; I am sure there is real love between idol groups, but it prob gets tangled in their own ambition and desire to succeed. Not saying the love isnt real; it very much is but there is this unique circumstances underneath
he would 200000% cosign the lowkey abandonment of a teenager in exchange for his own career and i love that for us narratively. there is absolutely real love in a lot of these groups in the same way there's love between like... people who work in a kitchen together or people who are on the same sports team. you're forced to at bare minimum work well with each other or else everything gets fucked. but love beyond that is a choice that these idols have to make, so it's really fun to look at the circumstances that make them want to choose that love. i do think when a child is in your care unless you're EVIL you're going to end up loving them to some degree, even if you express it badly. i think for sure yudai loves taki and doted on him predebut, but its also so fucked he had to do that at all. it almost? negates it for me. but not entirely :)
