i actually love the discussion of rentrycord please give me your hot takes. or thoughts. or connections. i think rentrycord relies on percieved value and urls are actually worthless. Trading is more open and inclusive, the selling of urls for gauged and percieved prices based on demand is very greedy and hierarchical because the more "in-demand" urls you have, the higher you are in status. But it builds a system where the popular stay popular as long as they have money and the poor people stay poor unless they buy too.
Urls like /Angel /Doll /(Any disorder url like BPD or NPD) /lace and the like, while yes are higher in value due to being nice words, aren't actually that important to spent over 100+ dollars on, i've never spent money on a url, I don't exactly like spending money on URLS but I also believe that what people do with their money isn't my business and I shouldn't care.
People who ONLY trade urls via selling at an outrageous price are odd to me, cool, you own /Angel or some other highly valued and wanted url. Why are you selling it for $400?(not saying that the owner is. Its just my biggest example due to when the community was trying to claim /angel.) Something about it seems odd to me. Not all of us can afford to waste money on a url on a pastebin website that can easily get hacked or stolen. I think we should all not care about the value of your urls and how to price them the highest, none of the prices are reasonable and its sooo fucking weird to me like i've already said like 7 times here.
Another thing is the call-out docs, yes there have been docs that are reasonable like Frey's and Luciel's doc that sheds like on horrible things that people do, but a lot of docs/call outs that i've seen have oddly cropped screenshots & lacks important information to paint who the doc is about in a worse light than they MIGHT be. A lot of docs i've read seem like "I don't like this person, they pissed me off, heres a doc with cropped out conversations." not saying that ALL docs are like this, not saying that at all. Just something i've noticed.
i hate how URLs have become a currency in their own right. how certain URLs will inherently have more "value" than another even though every URL has to be unique, just because there are obviously way more appealing URLs you can have. not only that, but even with URLs being treated as a currency and not something you have so that you can... you know, make pages, which is what rentry is for, there are also people spending absurd amounts of money on URLs.
i've said this a few days ago, but i never liked the idea of spending real money on URLs. not just because of scams, but because truthfully we never know if rentry is ever going to cease to exist. it's just a website and URLs are not a tangible thing anyone can have. i would feel horrible if someone spent money on an URL of mine only for it to be taken away from them and them to have wasted their money, and it would be just as unfortunate if it were to happen to me, so i've never spent money on an URL either.
i want the rentry community to be a place where people share their creativity and ideas with each other rather than a community of people who only cares about what your page is called and only is interested in interacting with people that have Good URLs, which even then go in and out of fashion as certain things become more or less popular
The more we attach made up labels to niche micro-communities in an attempt to differentiate ourselves & feel superior the more we avoid responsibility for our own behavior.
A lot of people you meet will tell you they hate rentrycord or don't associate with it but they usually burn down to the same traits found in those cesspools anyway. You'll find cliques everywhere online, and you'll always find trends and people to copy them. There will always be another Rentry Carrd Kinstagram and there will always be people eager to participate because it stems from a hobby and a chance to feel included in something. It's kind of sad. Are we all really that lonely? Haha
What makes you notable? Is it the words you're typing or the pastebin link you're typing it on? We may never know!
Dang it why r u lwk so smart
To be honest, I think the best way for the community to improve is to not be vicious and to not take things so seriously. I've had many amazing opportunities and trades simply because I am kind and I trade train. I like overtrading because it means releasing more URLs in the trading pool until they can find their forever owner. While I could sell them for money, I could also make someone's day with them which I value more than money.
Nobody is better than someone just because they have "better URLs". URLs can be obtained through unfavorable means like scamming, hacking, and abusing the system by using multiple emails when the claim form first came out. Multiclaims are most likely randomly selected if it's a high amount of claims considering that Sarah doesn't have time or energy to go through 100+ reasons for a URL to make a proper judgement. I don't think they're worth taking seriously because of that... and that's why I don't feel bad not getting my wishlist URLs because they were most likely obtained through those means. Overall I just try to have fun with the site rather than contribute to the toxicity any further.
I don't think any URL should be worth more than like 200+ or practically even 100 imo. I don't really care what people do with their money because if they get it from their jobs or somewhere else no one can practically have a say on what they buy yea you do you guys, but I am never buying a URL for more than 100 idgaf if it's a WL 😭 also a lot of people are so toxic like why are we so pressed over words on the screen 😬 also a lot of people would do anything for a URL even forget morals and stuff. 🤦🏾♀ I promise you guys it ain't worth it. Let's use our brains please.. I really love decorating my urls and just owning them and trading but I think rentrycord has gotten sm more toxic and people have gotten more petty but I fear if I say all my true opinions I'll get jumped LOL as someone who is in rentrycord, we have got to realize rentry will never matter in more than like 5+ years I swear. 😭🤞🏾 I'm gonna be honest I actually like a lot of people's decor though like I have seen a lot of good ones especially from my own friends.
I was the first person in the Rentry community who started the selling & buying. When I joined the community, everyone thought buying was banned until I found out it wasn't.
When I began to buy URLs for high amounts, sellers became attuned to the desperation. I left the community a few months ago (save for the official server since I am admin there) and it seems to have gotten worse from what I am hearing.
Not to mention how cliquey it was back then too then I remembered I need to get a life.
I think when I make it to Heaven, this will come back to haunt me and I will be sent to the lowest pit of Hell for what I have unleashed on the community in regards to URLs being sold for high amounts.
I believed in hate the game not the player but it is a vicious cycle of sellers getting high money offers and thus their expectations for future buyers must also be highballers otherwise they decline on the premise of one day being offered more.
Sorry BPD, Lolita, Saint - I don't want to play with you anymore.
It’s actually so crazy to me how people will buy urls for so much. Because of the sudden “value” of most urls it’s impossible to get good urls (unless you were on rentry really early.) or just urls u like in general bc everything is so expensive & finding trades is hard asf. I still don’t understand how a word on a screen can go for so much 😅
