Hey sorry if this is a silly question. I’m not sure if this was mentioned somewhere already, but i saw one of my prompts on the beta list. Is it allowed to beta a fic written for ur own prompt or is it discouraged to keep things fair and comfortable for the writer?

hi hi!! you are allowed to beta for your own prompt, but please be very transparent when signing up as a beta reader if this is the case! that way we can let the author know that their potential beta might be the prompter and let them decide what they want to do. we do not want to restrict the possibility of prompters betaing, since we know some authors do like to work with their prompter if possible!! if you are sure that you can beta read what the author writes in an unbiased way, even if it does not align with your original vision, this can be great!! but if you feel like you will be too invested in the prompt as you originally submitted it rather than how it’s now being written, we don’t recommend signing up to beta read it, because this can easily cause conflict and might be an upsetting experience for both of you.

TLDR: yes, it’s allowed, just let us know on the sign-up form that you’re the prompter and keep in mind that although the idea was yours, you are still only suggesting. the final say for everything should still be the author’s, as you signed up for when lending your ideas to our fest!! ^^
