How do you turn prompts and ideas into actual fics? I love coming up with prompts and making small scenarios in my head but when it comes to building a whole world around them I get overwhelmed quickly..
I tried to brainstorm for a jaywon fic earlier this year but had no idea where to start.. the ideas kept coming but the planing, organizing and writing part just scared the heck out of me :( do you have any advice?
honestly, by far the most challenging part of writing a fic is starting it. the best thing you can do to get the ball rolling is to just open a document and start writing down every idea you have, just to get it out of your brain. it's much easier to organize and flesh out ideas once you have them written down, and you can always fix a shitty draft!!!
tbh my go-to method is to just 'outline' for as long as possible lol. start by just jotting down a few things, the most important stuff that you want to include. then go over your notes and add in more scenes to fill in the storyline, and go over it again to make note of what details you want to mention; how people are feeling, body language and facial expressions, some specific dialogue. and for me, when I do that enough times, eventually I reach a point where I feel ready to write because I know exactly what to say. I think I posted examples of my process on twitter, but it was a long time ago, so I'll have to see if I can track it down
it's also worthwhile to experiment on what kinds of drafting work best for you. I am a little freak about spreadsheets, so I have a spreadsheet dedicated to helping me keep track of the pack formation timeline, and I also have a document for keeping track of world building information for the pfu, such as the meanings of different pack and courting gestures, how heat and rut cycles work, stuff like that. obviously if it's just a one shot you don't need documents like that, but if it's for a longer work with more complex world building, it can be useful
I hope any of that was helpful!!
