You know when adults spoon things into babies' mouths and say, "here comes the plane/train/whatever?" I've recently been wondering what it was before airplanes/trains existed. Maybe it'll be a fun study break question lol

What an interesting question. I gave a good faith effort looking into this the other day and I think adults did the spoon thing because the spoons themselves were shaped like planes and trains but also generally as a means to bribe/entertain their babies into eating. so hmmm what came before. perhaps there were alligator shaped spoons or dinosaurs so parents could make pterodactyl noises while spoonfeeding their children. or perhaps they had horse spoons... neigh... neigh..
