Also! Tell me more about your fav brazilian foods 🫵
RAAAAA!!!!
absolutely, but please know that i have lots of categories for this and it is not limited to region, but also to time of the year and savory/sweet. all comments i make below are based on my knowledge and experience with people from different parts of brasil
country wide savory delish:
- empada, prefereably with chicken and catupiry cheese
- bolinho de arroz, my BELOVED PLEASE!!
- pastel (all flavors, seriously, just aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
country wide sweet treats:
- brigadeiro (duh)
- torta de limão
- pavê
now moving on to specific regions. before that, here are some important notes:
- i have unfortunately traveled very little to the north (quite expensive from where i'm at), so i'm missing what i KNOW is wonderful cuisine, like incredible.
- there are a lot of food that are common everywhere, such as the rice and beans combo as well as basic salads and grilling. you can find most dishes everywhere nowadays, but some places are known for being better at making said dishes than others.
South (Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina):
- heavily influenced by Italian and German cuisines (weird mix, i know)
- churrasco (barbecue) gaúcho is like reeeeally famous. they have a lot of pasture land down south so the meat is incredible.
- joelho de porco. i hate to say it, but it FUCKS!!! good job
- barreado: my fav southern food tbh. INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!
Midwest (Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul):
- VACA ATOLADA MY BELOVED!!!!! seriously. SERIOUSLY. so tasty and so warm, it melts in your tongue.
- arroz com pequi is really good, but i have to be in a specific mood for it
- now... arroz carreteiro??? GIVE IT TO ME!!!!! 24/7!!! RAAAAAAAA!!!! so so so so good.
North (Amazonas, Acre, Amapá, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins):
- i'm saving up, my dear north. im saving up to visit you (again) but better. I've only ever been to Belém (capital of Pará) and Manaus (capital of Amazonas) and for short trips back in... 2012? 2013? don't @ me.
- i'll cheat here for a moment and say açaí heheheheh IN MY DEFENSE!!! i've had it with fish, so i've had it the original and correct way hehe i still prefere it mixed with guaraná and with lots of other fruits and toppings, i'm sorry northen friends, i'll do better.
- caldeirada: a pattern here that you'll see is that i'm a sucker for stew-like foods and i'm not ashamed. they smash EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! there are many versions of caldeiradas, i honestly don't remember the one i had, but i do remember it being incredible
Northeast (Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe):
- funfact the company i work for is from Pernambuco, so i go there often ehhe luky for me bc the food slaps.
- ok, starting with acarajé bc it is one of the tastiest things in the world and i LOVE IT!! seriously so good, and the little bit of spice is yum. chef's kiss.
- tapioca is super versitile, and i loooove that it can be savory or sweet!!! my favorite flavor is the carne de sol, it's so good chat. once in your life you must eat tapiooca.
- in the same lane: dadinho de tapioca com queijo coalho RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- moquequa (bonus points if it has lots of shrimp). my GOD!!!! azeite de dendê is really what makes this dish, what an incredible ingredient. YUM!!!
- bião de dois <3 take my heart and everything you want!!! there is literally everything i love: rice, beans, carne de sol and queijo coalho. how could i not love it?
- caldinho!!! especially shrimp one with a glass of cold beer after a hard day at work :] my pernambucano colleagues are influencing me.
Southeast (Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo):
- first of all, my apologies to my rio friends, but cariocas keep trying to say that comida de boteco is theirs when it was clearly created in minas :/ accept that we have the best cuisine in the region and on of the best ones in brazil, it is alrgiht!! you have the beach, christ the redeemer, pão de açucar, incredible music and lively atmosphere... let us have the food, ok?
- to my paulista friends: i'm sorry, i constantly talk poorly about your food </3 please know i see your potential and that i will compliment your coffee!!!!!!
- to my capixaba friends: sorry we took over guarapari, vila velha and the rest of that stretch of the coast. sorry you have a supermercados bh as well.
- OKAY FOOD!!!
- feijão tropeiro: bitch... when i tell you that we sell this at football stadiums, 'im not kidding. some people eat popcorn, some people at appetizers and snacks, out here we are having a full meal. tropeiro is probably my favorite kind of beans which is strange bc it is the only one that is on the drier side. but i just love that it is mixed with farofa and linguiça and eggs!! not to mention, when you put a bit of couve refogada on it...... YUM!!!!
- feijoada is now a brasilian classic. it has a very interesting history behind it; the dish was created by enslaved people during the colony time, when the senhores de engenho would give the rest of the pig (snout, feet, ears) to the enslaved people so as not to waste the food and they created this bean based stew that is INCREDIBLE!!! nowadays, most feijoada is made with better parts of the pig, but the rich flavors are still there. some feijoada with couve and rice?? hmmmm and a couple of slices of orange to break the fat. yeah.
- pão de queijo: i have yet to eat good cheesebread outside of minas... cmon people, it's not that hard.
- quejo com goiabada: dessert also known as romeo and juliet, it fucks
- queijo com doce de leite YUM!!!!!!!
- frango com quiabo has my heart.
- torresmo!!!!!!
- tutu de feijão. yes, we have way too many bean based dishes :]
- bolo de fuba!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAAA
- bolinho de arroz (ok idk that this is from here, but it's everywhere and i fucking love it)
- bolo de milho!!!!!!!
- BROA DE MILHO RAAAAAAAAAA
ok i'll stop bc i'm getting really hungry. the bottom line is: everywhere you go in brazil you'll eat well, and i'm CLEARLY a foodie
