The study ended up finding that in Alzheimer's disease, the brain lacks the ability to hold normal levels of a certain cellular energy molecule called "NAD+". When balance is restored with this molecule, it can prevent or reverse the disease. This has not been tested on humans quite yet, but it was very promising in animal models.
