It's surprising that the best Aemond characterisation I've ever seen is from a 4eg0nd fic with bottom Aemond. I dislike this ship and I don't think 4eg0n matches Aemond, but a pic of a dialogue from the fic on twitter made me give it a chance and I don't think I've ever seen an Aemond so well written like that, it was a sight for sore eyes after more than 5000 fics that only know how to portray Aemond in one way, which is always as a dumb sick brutal caveman whose only personality trait is being obsessed with Lucerys, whose sole purpose in life is to rape Lucerys and nothing else.
And I say this as a person who enjoys Aemond both bottom and top, but topmond is becoming tiresome to read, it's the same tropes being constantly regurgitated in the tag, there's nothing new and the characterisation of Aemond always being like this is becoming boring. I feel like I'm reading the same story 10 times when it's actually 10 diff ficz made by 10 diff people. I wouldn't see such a problem with this if it weren't for the fact that most of these people harass those who try to write something different, and I'm not even referring to writing bottomond, but rather an Aemond who isn't this unilateral brute obsessed with Lucerys. Sometimes it feels like Ryan and Hess themselves are writing all this.
Come on, dont be shy, Aemond is an interesting character to explore, try to think of something different or at least don't harass, mock, or push down those who do.
Honestly, this has been an issue since this fandom's beginnings with topmonds only wanting a certain brutish version of Aemond to be portrayed in fics. I got an ask when I still had CuriousCat about an incident where a topmond was basically harassed by other topmonds out of the fandom because they didn't portray Aemond the "correct" way. I try to stay out of topmonds' business so that they can stay out of mine. I'm mutuals with a few of them who are chill. I have never read a topmond fic and have no interest in reading one at all. I'm glad that you found an Aemond characterization that you like. I have been one to say that I don't exactly like the whole obsessed with Lucerys Aemond angle that a lot of people go for. Not getting into that rn. Hope you find many more fics that you enjoy. Also, I agree with you. Aemond is a very interesting character to explore and people should feel able to do so without worrying about being harassed by people who hate anything that isn't exactly to their tastes. I don't understand when this whole thing started, where certain factions of shippers in fandoms seem to believe that anything that doesn't fit their vision of their ship is wrong and shouldn't exist. We used to ignore each other or be cordial.
