omg!! well let me yap if you dont mind (trigger warning im about to trauma dump lowkey)

the chasing sunlight universe honestly was not supposed to grow as much as it did. it was inspired by, believe it or not, an episode of the broski report podcast 😭 brittany was talking about and crying about her relationship with christianity, and there was one part where she talked about (iirc???) being in church and singing these christian songs and not feeling anything while everyone else cried and felt touched by the lord. idk that just hit me so hard in the gut. i personally don’t have much religious trauma or guilt bc i was raised mostly agnostic (yay!) but i have had moments where i wondered if being a person of god would make me suffer less (dark ik im sorry).

along with that, i wanted to explore the grief i experienced in my freshman year of uni. that year was quite tragic at my school, as one student committed suicide like right on campus. it was a traumatic experience for me as someone who’s been suicidal for years. then, my friend that i just met that year passed away too, like i met her in the cafe on campus one day then literally two weeks later she died. so i kind of morphed these experiences with riki’s character in that fic to cope.

my heejay fic is honestly just a big combination of the lore of so many bands i listen to, mainly skid row who are my favorite. i think the way they split was so stupid and i have yet to fully understand it all 😭 so im kind of playing off of that story in this au, you’ll have to read to find out how it happens :3 i guess you could also say i was inspired by bands like queen and van halen, whose lead singers left their respective bands to go solo. it scares me that i wrote this premise before heeseung ever left enhypen (i lowkey predicted the future like whatdatmean). but overall the 1980s is a time i Yearn to experience even though i was -20 years old. i love 80s rock and culture, it’s been a special interest of mine since 2020, so i really wanted to write about it, very self indulgent :)
