as a general rule i'm against witch hunts because they're an act of vigilantism, and i feel like they should be a last resort for when a crime is committed and the justice system fails to do its job and that person is roaming free in the community and able to do actual harm to more people, it's important to raise awareness in those situations. but often what we're seeing is people attempting to de-platform others because their personal opinions differ, because they don't get along, because they are seeking out things that make them uncomfortable and blaming it on whoever was minding their business in their own little corner of the internet.

we're all adults, we can all be responsible for our own space, we can all block and mute til the cows come home and avoid the things we do not want to see. pressuring your mutuals to block people to avoid incurring your wrath, targeting people based on lies, assumptions, or things you could easily avoid that aren't being shoved in your face, and wanting to control how people feel or think or who they're friends with... is all just insane lmao and it's not beneficial to the people making the callout posts either, it's intentionally aggravating for them. they are triggering themselves and giving too much air time to the things they claim to hate. it's counterintuitive. not a good coping mechanism, at all. they would be much happier, much more peaceful, if they just blocked and muted and went and handled their feelings in real life, in a medically informed way. i don't think a therapist would ever recommend crashing out online.
