Correct me if I'm wrong but when has being Christian mean you can't support the LGBT, like genuine question when was this a thing
im not christian but my brother is and he said its just due to people largely misinterpreting some things in the bible and people being stuck in "traditionalist" ways and equating that with their christianity
Unfortunately, the bible has long been used and cherrypicked as a tool of oppression to... literally any marginalized group. If these Christians are called to love, then why is there so much hate in their hearts?
In the case I'm #observing on Alter right now, it reads like an unfortunate case of a child perpetuating this cycle 🤷 Especially if they're suppressing their own gender identity in the name of faith 😵💫 It's sad to see a religion of love be warped into anything but
Actually never. The "man shall not lie with man" is a complete mistranslation. It is "man shall not lie with boy", which condemns pedophilia.
The bible frequently talks about not holding hatred or grudges against people, or seeing someone as lesser for aspects of their identity. I don't have any verses on hand for this, but it's very evident if you do light research on it.
It is also heavily implied that God is genderless and sexless. If man is made in God's image, are people fall out of the gender binary and sex binary not part of that choir?
The bible doesn't address nor condemn same-sex relationships either, or any queerness more complicated than that.
The Bible is filled with stories of polygamy and husbands taking concubines, and just women being treated awfully.
Any Christian who says "homosexuality is a sin" is wrong and it is an absolute dead giveaway that they do not bother to read or properly interpret the very scripture they read.
The "homosexuality is a sin" rhetoric only stems from poor biblical scholarship and a cultural bias, as well what I would say would be the patriarchy and traditionalism. For some reason, if you do something outside the norm in society that isn't harmful, you're weird. Unfortunately, conservatives exist, and this is a problem as well.
Jesus also never said a single word against homosexuality. In all of his teachings, Jesus uplifted and encouraged actions and attitudes of justice, love, humility, mercy, charity / generosity, compassion, and other virtues I strongly agree with.
He condemned violence, oppression, selfishness / acts of self-serving, harmful acts and attitudes, and social injustice. Never once in the Bible did Jesus refer to homosexuality as a sin.
Christians also claim that God and Jesus Christ loves all people unconditionally, but then they portray God as a jealous one. It's very interesting. This also stems from misinterpretation. A lot of Christians are performative, imo. Not saying it's bad to be Christian, but I prefer to not be associated with a religion that oppresses women, is associated with bloody crusades meant to convert indigenous people and others, and is known today as the religion of the hypocrites.
This is all coming from an agnostic by the way. I was raised Christian for majority of my life, and I actually bothered to read and properly interpret the Bible. Jesus and Mary were really cool. Learning about other religions and beliefs are also really cool.
It's funny how someone who doubts God can understand a religion better than someone who claims to.
certain verses within the bible are interpreted to mean that being queer is a sin worthy of being put to death. the main one quoted is leviticus 18:22: "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." christians who read the bible avidly get it directly from the text itself, but if you actually look into the teachings of jesus christ, He would value the lives of queer people, the same as He does say, tax collectors. it's complicated...
As far as I know.. being Christian doesn’t automatically mean you can’t support LGBT people.. so I dont really get it 😭
to Be completely honest, I'd have To ask him. I'm not entirely Sure. I am a Christian Presbyterian so we do have different beliefs as he is Christian Orthodox. I may Ask him if you'd like me to. i Am simply just trying to educate others, All I know is that he is Not homophobic wether being Christian rules it deemed or not, if I need to be corrected On this i Am open to criticism.
