Do you feel like there are people who take the 'the ZX Spectrum/Amiga/etc don't get their flowers' too far? I get it's annoying when you feel like your own memories aren't given respect in the wider conversation about videogames, but it feels like they're overcompensating on that front.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to a sense that people are more sensitive to misjudgements of history when it's their own backyard. I feel like there's a sense sometimes of "How dare you do [misgiving]! What if I did it to you?!" and then unironically just do the same thing but in reverse, which doesn't really benefit anyone making it kind of the inverse version of the Two Cakes scenario so more like the Two Bitches scenario. There's always the question I feel people need to ask, which is "Am I mad that the machine that creates misinformation exists or am I mad that I don't have the keys to it?".
I'm do think it is the case that the English retro scene is being dominated by North Americans (mostly because of sheer volume) and history has been painted through the lens of North Americans. That being said, I do think going "I'm in the UK, and there's not nearly enough Amiga or Speccy coverage" and then focusing 99% on that really helps either. I can't remember what game it was, but there was a Japanese arcade game I was looking up, and the Wikipedia article was like 90% dedicated to the Amiga port, which was kind of annoying because I wanted to know about the arcade game. There's cases like Rodland where what The Sales Curve did with it is truly interesting, but I want to know what Jaleco did first.
If we all want to be better about the history of gaming and be better Retro Gamers, we should seek out history wherever we can and promote not just the works that reflect our own personal memories. I get it's rough not having your proper time in the spotlight, but remember, once you get your share, you gotta pass it along too.
