as a writer, will we have to tag the dynamics if we write a long plotted fic? (100k+ and maybe only 5k of smut) thank you
Hey!! No need to tag dynamics if hou don’t want to. It’s totally up to the writer 💙
the graphics are always so good, do you guys only use canva?? its amazing and thats what (imo) brings more readers/participants because it catches the eye
Thank you so much!!! We use procreate only. I still haven’t learned how to use canva 🥹💙
What type of incest is not allowed? All of them?
we do NOT allow blood related incest. by wikipedia, incest is: “Incest (/ˈɪnsɛst/ IN-sest) is sex between close relatives, for example a brother, sister, or parent.[1][2][3] This typically includes sexual activity between people in consanguinity (blood relations), and sometimes those related by lineage.” so if the relationship is not blood related, then it’s allowed in our fest. Thank you for asking!
i think people are missing that if they submit early, they won’t be revealed on the last day or something. they’ll still be revealed on the first or second or third day or whatever is closest (or the “correct” day) to their submission date. besides, people can change published dates, too. fests have been tweaking posting orders for years, it’s to help balance the reveals because you don’t want five fics that are 30k+ on the same day
Yes, in the end, lots of fics are reveal per day. Thank you for understanding our message and for sending your feedback!!!
I think readers preference is more random and writers preference at least from those I’ve spoken to is submission order. I expect there might be a lot of drop outs or WIPs because people’s motivation to participate is gone. Also writers CAN sometimes gauge where they are when they submit based on the collection. A writer would know if they submitted a month after claiming and then when reveals come they get revealed in week 4…
I don’t know if you want to scare me or not with the part that a lot of writers will drop out, or that we will get more wips than complete fics (?) but if the final decision is to reveal fics in a random order and writers decide to leave us, then it’s their decision and I respect it. Even if we get 1 fic by the end, that is fine by me. I don’t want to make any writer feel bad or pressure them to join our fest. This is a loving space, no need to provoke fear or wish ill.
hii don’t be too hard on yourself! it’s really fine. this is such a small thing in the grand scheme, and writers are allowed to feel upset sometimes. there’s no rulebook for being a fest mod, so it’s all a learning process for everyone. you’re doing a great job regardless 🫂 i hope everyone works together to reach a decision that helps our writing community grow and thrive!
Thank you so much!!
I think that as a community we’re trying to get away from having our fics looked at only by tropes. tropes are often irrelevant in the grand scheme of things and people will not even click on them and give the fics a chance if it’s not a trope they’re initially into. not all of us are tropey writers.
Last season, the 4 tropes we had for the graphics were Friends to Lovers, Enemies to Lovers, Strangers to Lovers and Exes to Lovers, and this season we will have them again. As you can see, those are basic tropes. Sorting the fics by tropes is just an idea. The most important thing in this debacle is the word count
Dear writers, there are so many readers with different preferences, don't be discouraged thinking that most readers prefer a certain trope or fic length. I know readers who prefer short fics, others medium-length and others long fics. Tropes are even more diverse.
It's impossible to avoid people starting with their preferences and I don't think the order fics are posted makes a difference in that, but it doesn't mean that readers won't explore other works.
I think it makes sense for this decision to be made between mods and writers
Thank you for your message!!!
As a writer for this fest, this just kinda zapped my motivation because what do you mean I could submit early and end up at the end. Of course everyone works hard on their stories and they're all worthy of being read, but what's the motivation to submit early if their fic could just end up revealing on the last day? I think this should have either been told prior to claiming to start or asked to writers on how they'd like their fics to be handled. Readers of course are going to want all their favorite tropes grouped together and then only read those.
We will be sending authors a google form to know what they think. In my opinion, submitting earlier in a fest to be revealed first shouldn’t be an important aspect when joining a fest. It’s about taking a prompt, having fun writing a fic, then sharing the fic and interacting with readers. But that’s my personal view of things
ive hosted 5 bts fests and we've always done what you suggested (tweek the orders to balance things out), i didnt know people felt compelled to post on order of submission? this is actually new to me
Thank you for sharing your experience!!!
