No, washing the mouth out with soap isn't just a saying, it's actually done. It is metaphorical, but it's one of those things where you really apply the metaphor. I believe this is what was always intended; it was never meant to only be a saying, and you are supposed to physically use soap to wash out the mouth. OH 😭 I actually had no idea people really did that HAHA... thank you for lecturing me, bibble, I learned something new today :3 but now I'm curious, do you actually think it's a good way to discipline children? I feel like it might be effective in making them remember not to swear, but at the same time... wouldn't the poor child be traumatized 😭 I'd feel so bad for them... What do you think?
