Hi Lambda! Big fan of your Elden Ring writings. How are you? Care to give us a thought? 🌾 ⚰
HI!! ^_^ I love to hear that, thank you so much... I've been having a great time visiting my boyfriend, and a super busy weekend, but I finally have time to reply now!
🌾 = I really like comparing Elden Ring's themes to real-life concepts, and a big one on my mind lately is the left and right handed paths. I especially enjoy this passage when comparing the notion of a left-handed path, in particular, to various goals in the game. Marika and Radagon as left and right were the first figures I compared this concept to, but I think with the added context of SOTE and Nightreign, it could extend to a general thematic of Chaos and Order.
For some explicit examples on this in the game... The Inner Order gesture extends the player's right hand, and is obtained from Devin, who is strictly loyal to the Golden Order. This pose is replicated in the Golden Order Greatsword's weapon art, as well. Meanwhile, the Outer Order gesture extends the left, and is obtained from Melina when she recites Marika's intent to search the depths of the Golden Order, and abandon blind faith. The linked passage also brings Nightreign's Libra to mind, and he happens to wield a staff adorned with a left hand on his own left side!
I think I just especially delight in the concept that Marika is more about ascension, transformation, and denial of explicit law - especially considering her potential origins and wishes of a kind Gold - while Radagon fully devotes himself to Order, the right-handed intent to merge with "God" as a goal, rather than the left-handed concept of merging as a stepping stone. I really think this concept may have been an inspiration in development, with how neatly things fit, and I need to learn a lot more about how it's interpreted across different IRL faiths/cultures... it's so cool!!!
⚰ = I love just about everyone in Elden Ring stuff, but Rogier was my true favorite character for the longest time... my obsession with Fia's questline & his involvement in it as a point of balance, his neat assortment of cut content, and his personality all had me self-shipping with him before I even encountered the concept in Rentry spaces LOL. I must admit he's fallen to the back of my mind, with how long I focused on him and how much more content has dropped, but I'll still love that weird guy forever.
