I think it’s an issue that a lot of you see an 18yo and immediately assume that they should be behaving with complete maturity. I think a lot of you also tend to gloss over the fact that a majority of the people that are active on this site are mentally ill, which can, and often does, affect the rate that someone matures at. While it is partly the responsibility of the older person to watch what they say, there are a multitude of things that others can use to prevent themselves from receiving asks that they don’t want to see; at the end of the day, you cannot dictate what someone else posts, but you can control what you see online. The block and mute features exist for your safety, and I think it would be in the best interest of everyone to stop treating them as if they’re something to avoid. They are there for your comfort.
