i do agree the ranking for solos is fandom dependent and would differ based on a group's fandom and what genres they delve into most but it's not even just that though. kpop fans in general have a tendency to not care as much about what they perceive to be ballads ( and authentic ballads ) in general since it tends to be less appealing to what draws most people into kpop and the element of understanding the lyrics is lost, so an emotional layer of the music is lost which is integral to ballads.
i find this discussion interesting because nct makes tons of ballads anyway so this weird animosity makes no sense, plus there are multiple members with ballads so again weird critique. i also just find it bizzare because although i understand the preferences to hip-hop and r&b it doesn't mean that people need to mischaracterise or trivialise x member's own music.

taeyong's music is indeed experimental in many ways and neo but his music also gets oversimplified to that label of neo sometimes when it's reductive, his music also mainly pulls from hip-hop, r&b, pop and pop-rock from what i'm aware of but he also blends genres in his music so experimental does make sense. i understand why someone is less likely to be inclined to perhaps prefer or like yuta's and doyoung's music and it doesn't automatically bother me lol. it's the weird condescension and disrespect and selectivism. though who cares about this all in the grand scheme of things. i'm enjoying all the solos in their own way so i'm psyched for any neo solo release.
