you have taerae who has his own boundaries when it comes to skinship and emotions but is somehow so comfortable with matthew he doesn't mind if matthew clings to him and even clings back and let's him hold his hand and gets comforted by him whenever he's struggling and it's just ughhhhhh also what stands out for me the most is when they were asked at the con who they're thankful for and taerae picked ricky but later said "if I choose the person I'm really the most thankful for I'll cry" (and the members all immediately knowing it's matthew) like UGHHHHH and of course him getting teary when matthew randomly told him he's thankful for him and saying matthew knows how to play with his emotions the best
and then you have matthew who grew up in canada where the age hierarchy isn't a thing at all but then coming to sk where it's more rigid but then finally meeting a person who's the same age as him and who he can talk to about everything and who explains everything to him and never gets impatient with him and here it also stands out to me when they had the anniversary sports thingy where they wrote messages for the members and matthew wrote "member xx who gave/did etc." starting every messages with the names and then attributes but only for taerae he said something like "a friend I really needed, Taerae" like UGHHHHHHHH and then whenever he says he'll cry if Taerae cries like.... man
what a precious bond though I hope it stays this way forever
(also one more thing but I like how, while Taerae does get doted on by the older members sometimes, he prefers the dynamic where he gets to tease and joke around with the members more but he really doesn't mind getting taken care of by Matthew especially because he's comfortable with him (the younger members obviously cannot dote on him and even the older members are aware of his boundaries (thinking about hanbin saying he knows Taerae doesn't like getting his head patted so he doesn't do that with him 😭) - also thinking about that mcountdown waiting room stream where taerae was stressed out multiple times and matthew was patting his knee and holding his hand the entire time like... man
and on the other side you have matthew who somehow gets babied by the entire group (of course, in a good way and he surely doesn't mind) but taerae doesn't do that at all and just treats him like a same age friend, like idk it's an interesting contrast because you can also tell how much Taerae cares about him still and treats him like a precious friend and ughhhhhh idek where I'm going with this message so I'm ending it here)
wahhhh 🧡💛🧡💛🧡💛🧡💛🧡 dude i think about that ‘who are you most thankful for’ thing so much LIKE I DON’T WANNA ASSUME TOO MUCH THAT IT ACTUALLY WAS JUST BC THE CAMERA ENDED ON HIM BUT LIKE. LIKEEEE. man. the puzzle pieces were definitely fitting lol.
also the breakfast convo too like. that shattered me for real. and even the song… i know you didn't bring it up but i will. we’ve been over this a billion times but i cannot stress enough how the full picture being ‘i was going through a really rough time and when trying to navigate that, there was a moment that gave me strength with a person i care about’ is just sooo meaningful. like that changed his life and their dynamic. and to write it into a song to express that is So taerae to do, too. because how else would he do it if not in a song? ghah.
also!!!!!! THE SAME AGE THING IS SOOO IMPORTANT it kind of kills me when ppl try giving them honorifics or forcefully dividing them by age in normal settings because that’s just not Them. there’s no respect for honorifics between them because there doesn’t have to be… they’re the same-aged friends of all time… His Friend Who He’s Needed.
their friendship and dynamic definitely did evolve over time but that’s what makes it so interesting to me. this constant push and pull. the rage baiting and the teasing and the bluntness vs the genuine compliments and soft voices and endless patience. there’s something so precious and almost fragile about it. taerae trying to up the flirtiness on camera sometimes but also being so silly and shy once it comes back to him. also with touch like… there’s A Lot of give and take i said this recently too but there’s genuinely clips where u can see him flinch away a bit or even straight up pry matthew’s hands off him but there’s also times he initiates or reciprocates even more like. idk it’s crazy. and i feel like matt always goes about it so well and kind of knows where to draw the line and which buttons he can and cannot press and When he can and cannot do it. vice versa too. they're just so well-matched in certain aspects and then wherever they don't match there's an interesting contrast to explore. idk they fascinate me tremendously and i enjoy diving into that dynamic so much.
