Thank youu ❤️ and yes of course!
.1 García Lorca was made fun of when he came back from New York to Spain (keep in mind, this was 1929-1930), because apparently he'd consumed mostly African-American culture, and knew nothing about white productions of the time such as The Great Gatsby. The right-wing press particularly was quick to insult him for his “lack of culture” and of course, calling him a faggot.
.2 Many people think the bombing of Guernica is the only one that happened during the Spanish Civil War, but the truth is, the aired Nazi (and Fascist) forces used Spain as a testing ground for weaponry even before then. For example, the bombing of Trubia, Asturias. <- Hey that's where I live. Asturias, not Trubia specifically.
I can only show translated poems here because there's so many English speakers which is a shame. I really wanted to show you one by Miguel Hernández but I haven't translated from him. Oh well. Desmayarse, atreverse, estar furioso by Lope de Vega.
There's a shit ton of pictures from Lorca's stay in Salvador Dalí's hometown taken by Dalí himself, including one of him in ballet flats which I find very silly. Ohh this is a shame to answer if you don't know me already because on Tetratto I spoke extensively about Lorca and Dalí's homoerotic relationship. 💔 Oh well.
I'm okay! At a friend's house right now. We ordered kebab & right now we're just waiting for it to arrive. I'm passing the time by writing. He also gifted me poem compilations from Vicente Aleixandre & Miguel Hernández and I'm so excited to read them at home!
