I muted someone because they kept drama going for days after it died down, I felt like if I blocked them they would add me to the drama too 😭 also muting is more effective than blocking if u dont want to see their posts and you both have oomfs in common, at least in my experience

I have a personal account where I follow my old irl friends. As the midterm US elections get closer, I'm seeing some wild political takes while my other friends actually argue with conservatives. I mute them to protect my mental peace. They're my friends, so I'm not going to unfollow them. After the fighting goes down, I unmute them. Muting is just a great way to keep drama off of the timeline
see this is the only reason that kind of makes sense to me, but I also just don't have a personal twt, and my solution would just be to log out and log onto a different account. like when I get sick of stuff on my tiktok feed I switch to get if that makes sense. but yeah ig if you use your personal twt often it makes sense

Regarding muting moots: sometimes it's because I feel that the fanfic part of Moatwt can be "small" and so unfollowing someone/blocking them could cause gossip to spread around which I don't want! Unless the person genuinely did harm it's mostly for personal reason, including stuff that triggers me but the moot in question didn't really do anything wrong or for example I try to avoid following account that engage too often in discourse and fanwars
ahh yeah I fear I just softblock people for that 😭 I have no shame in it. I have soft blocked ppl bc the vibes were off, or they put too much drama on my feed or they were shitting on things I enjoyed too much. like I am sure there are people who dislike me bc I softblocked them but idk protecting my peace is more important than "keeping the peace" ya feel me?? and it feels meaner to me to mute someone I'm following?? like it feels disingenuous?? like I care more ab keeping you as a follower than actually liking you, and I don't really want to follow someone I'm not interested in engaging with but I understand the anxiety of it but I can't imagine people will turn it into drama unless they're is drama there and not a simple, yeah I'm cutting off the mutual.
but I also have definitely refollowed people I have softblocked /ppl that have softblocked me so I maybe don't see it as seriously as other people do.
like if it was serious it would've been a hard block ??? does that make sense??
