Alterspring is about to become the biggest retrospring site on the internet (yes even bigger than the racist one you all know what i mean) but it still costs us time and money to keep it online. please consider donating to our ko-fi to help keep the service online. we really appreciate every bit! hi hi!! I'm not familiar with ko-fi - is it possible to tip anonymously?
when jisung called chan kiddo my feet started kicking
as someone who censors I'll add my two cents: if I were famous I'd rather have my fans censor nsfw content they write about me. I'm aware that as a celebrity I'd be sexualised one way or another, but I don't think I would be in the mood to stumble upon such things whenever I search myself up to read opinions about my latest performance. Plus I wouldn't want teams from brands that are considering me to become their ambassador to see stuff like that too when they research me to check if I fit with their brand. That being said, I understand why people don't censor names - for the reasons you mentioned, but also simply against the censorship and puritanism culture that is only growing recently!
yeah like i said i totally get why people censor and i dont go up to them and tell them to stop or block them for doing it or write long tweet threads expressing why i think it's bad or something despite how i feel about it (bc i genuinely dc what someone else is doing). i get it. its a non issue to me atp—i think we should all keep doing what makes us comfortable while also being aware of why it's/we're not perfect.
but the thing is we aren't celebrities and we will never know how skz feel about it. we just have to accept what we're doing is likely something that would make some if not all of them uncomfortable. i am sure with all the confidence in the world jisung would be disgusted with me for what i've written about him. the thing is we can keep doing whatever we want, so we will. and if one day you or i or anyone else decides "this rpf thing is actually weird and my fav would hate me" then we have every bit of ability to stop doing it!
celebrities know what we're doing. brands do too. what rich people feel about anything regarding fandom doesn't bother me or concern me honestly lolol. they think we're all a subset of silly freaks playing in the sandbox together; we don't make up a huge majority, so we likely don't impact much. stray kids are successful despite what is going on on ao3 and twitter and postype—which is something we need to consider too.
and yeah the censorship and puritanism stuff is really getting worse and worse. i see why people feel a certain way about heavy topics and i don't fault them for that but i also don't have to agree with what's going on either because unforch even the most well meaning opinions can lead to fascism and impediment on rights. i block and mute as much as i can, including buzzwords that could potentially show up on my feed just so i don't have to see the discourse. i've stopped talking about it publicly because genuinely no one cares to listen or have a real convo on it and people are going to feel how they're going to feel. but i will continue doing what i like doing and doing what i've been doing here until i'm unhappy.
Thank you so much for answering my question!! Now I understand the reasons for the different choices ^^
Hi!! I love your writing!! I wanted to ask maybe a bit of a weird/naive question? I don't really use Twitter and I'm curious about the fact that there appears to be a big divide between censoring and not censoring names of members/ships? Maybe the reasons for either choice are very obvious for socmed users and this is a very stupid question!! But peeking in from the outside I'm so confused...
hi there hon thank you! it's not weird or naive—and you're right, there is a big divide.
majority of people on skz fic twitter censor so their tweets do not reach unintended audiences, which would be minors, fic antis and anti shippers, and safe for work communities that don't want to see the members sexualized.
those of us that don't censor typically don't because first and foremost, we don't want to because we don't see or experience the benefits of censoring. an anti that finds your account whether you censor or not will still berate you publicly or anonymously bully you. teenagers will always look at things they're not supposed to, even if there are rules present. other reasons: it looks ridiculous (personal opinion), it is ultimately useless, and is not accessible for visually impaired people who require text to voice to use twitter or people with severe dyslexia, nor is it accessible for newcomers who are navigating ficdom spaces but are used to fandoms that don't censor (other kpop fandoms, tv show/anime/movie & game fandoms, other RPF fandoms, BL fandoms, etc).
it is more socially acceptable to censor on skz rpf twitter. if you want to use twitter and gain friends and followers in the nsfw community, it is easier to do if you censor. i originally did, but have abandoned it for the above reasons. most people say "please censor or ill block"—but it's obvious this is not true for most of them. i still interact with people who have this in their bios. tons of people who censor still follow me. etc.
it's a matter of preference and world view at the end of the day. i disagree with it. i won't do it. i encourage others to stop doing it. but i understand why someone wants to and that is their business and their account.
the contrast between bg color and text was the big thing, you're very cool for actually taking the time to make your page more accessible! thank you for being a good person <3
love your fic but omg the colors on your carrd are a direct attack against visually impaired people, I struggled just to find the link to this page lmao
