If we're applying to be a comic artist/have pitches for a comic, do we need to have comic examples in our portfolio?
It's recommended, but not required! Not having done comics previously will not affect your application. We'd love to see compositional sketches if you have them :)

Are we allowed to apply for multiple positions?
Yes! You'll initially be chosen for one role, but once you've finished your initial piece, you may have the opportunity to create additional pieces.

What’s the role of a spot artist?
Spot Artists work with Writers to help visualize part of their story! You'll work together to pick what part of the story will be drawn. For example, recipes have photos of the ingredients and the finished dish, those are both considered spot art! If you were paired with a chef, you would draw an image of the food to go along with the recipe.

Hello, what is the difference between 'page artist' and 'spot artist'? Applications-wise, that is.
Hi! Applying to be a Page Artist means you're interested in creating a fully rendered page, (which is 2480x3508px!) complete with a background.
Applying as a Spot Artist means you're interested in creating a small piece of art that compliments a writer's work, be it a scene from the story, a Polaroid of the characters, etc. Think of a photo as part of a story in a newspaper! These typically do not take up a full page. Though, if you're willing and able, you may create a full page art for the writer's story. Hope this answers your question!

Yes! We'll be holding digital merch artist applications alongside page artist apps.

Once applications open, would applicants need to submit at least one Splatoon-related piece as one of their examples, or would it be not required, but highly encouraged instead?
Having at least one Splatoon-related piece is highly encouraged, but not required! We'd love to see your splat style include in your portfolio in some way, even if it's a sketch!

Will applicants need to prove they're inexperienced in some way?
We're going off the honor system! Based on the feedback we've gotten in the past week, we're currently planning on choosing an even mix of those who haven't been in zines before, and those who have! Either if you're totally new to the zine scene, or you're a zine veteran, we look forward to your application when they open on February 6th! 🩵

How do I get the zine?
After it's been put together, we plan on releasing the zine as a digital PDF! It will be shared as a google drive link on our socials. Please look forward to it on December 21st, the day of the Winter Solstice! ❄️

Is ship art allowed for the zine?
Yes! Ship art will be allowed in this zine. As long as it's SFW, you may depict things such as kissing or, if you're feeling scandalous, hand holding.
