Hi Ysa!! I'm a big fan of your work and I really liked Eternal Angel as of late 😊 I was excited when I saw you tagged it as psychological horror and I was very satisfied! The description of Mr. Doctor from Kyungsoo himself and the conversations they've had made me feel for the poor boy 😖 Mr. Doctor definitely left an impression, though. Especially since he captured me(?!) and left me unable to escape!! His mercy was definitely twisted, but I nonetheless was fascinated by the work. Thank you for sharing with us!!
Another thing I wanted to mention, or ask, was that I was curious as to how you plan your works. Ofc Eternal Angel was on the shorter side, but for your longer works, how do you envision what you want to write out? I saw you mentioned in a CC a few years ago that you picture a beginning, middle and end, but your longer works (and even medium! BDILY, HW, Missing Beauty, etc) amaze me in terms of flow and how you fill in everything in between 🥰 I love woti no doubt, especially as your longest work, but Maybe has stuck with me since I first read it. The development between the two boys, the brewing feelings, the continuation into college and even the future once they've settled with their careers and all--I just adore the narrative!! Not to mention that the sex is 🤤 but I digress.
This is a long message, sorry, I really wanted to ask you how you do it in terms of composition. You're one of the (only) writers I love to read and keep up with, so I'm curious as to how your brain works when it comes to some of the fundamentals like how you plan out your works and how you know what you want to write! I hope I'm making sense 🙇 Anyway, I can't wait to see what's next after BDILY!
hi dear! omg I love getting long messages so please don't apologize 💖 my planning process is very simple, actually! I basically just dump everything I want to write in one big doc, with headings for each category such as "dialogue," "sex," "ending," etc. I need to get them all down bec ideas fly away fast. but this is just for backup, bec the most important thing is getting started on the writing itself. do it badly, randomly, scatteredly, etc! because this is the only way you'll really get to know your characters and know for sure what to do with them - by spending time with them. from there, they lead me by the leash so much it's become a joke between me and my bd bestie lol, bec they end up destroying most of my plans for them. giving the characters free rein is better for the story, imo! planning is nice, though. and it's even easier if you let yourself get inspired by anything, and if you do anything that clears the mind such as showering or taking a walk instead of actively searching on the web. reading literary (non-fanfic) works is also a huge help! not just composition-wise, but in terms of influence too. if you like my works bec of how book-like they are, then that’s the reason! just read a ton. in fact I do more reading than writing... reading the right works would get the proverbial ink flowing, trust!
I admit, many of the best developments in my works were initially unplanned (for ex., woti ending). they just came to me in response to situations, what I'm personally feeling, etc. in the end, the plans were just a crutch before the flow state seizes hold of my brain and makes it all semi-automatic 😂
but whenever I'm stumped, I go to the friends I trust with my stories! their impact can’t be underestimated. you can get blinded by being too close to what you write, so a more objective eye is valuable! friends are also a goldmine of ideas esp if you share the same preferences and kinks...
all in all, planning for me looks like this: read, read, read, get influenced, write ideas down, actually work on the fic and see if things come together, and if stumped, ask friends what they think. hope this has been helpful 🥰 thank you so much for reading and your interest hehe
