Had Smokey died from murder, they'd psychologically and physically torture the murderer. They would not care who it was. The line they drew would beyond break the limit (EX. If a teenager was somehow responsible, maveth's "they're too young" rule would be broken.) after his death, they would not see a purpose in leaving the cult. And go back to their old ways with more brutality. With Smokey's corpse possibly being mutilated, they would not attempt to revive him due to fear of him being in more pain then before.

Had it been from illness they would completely neglect their cult prior to the death, trying to cure him if they believed it was possible, once he died, they would preserve his body while looking for a cure. Absolutely no cult member could touch his corpse but them. They would execute anyone who disobeyed this rule. They would convince the members to treat his dead body with the same fearful respect as they did when he was alive. While looking for a way to resurrect him, they would die from too much Corbeau magic use as a Campbell.

The only possible incident where they'd kill themselves from this is if they believed his death was their fault. But that's if they can manage to gain the bravery to do it.
