is there a word count leeway for writer apps?
Unfortunately not! As we're limited by page count in the zine, we have to be strict on the word counts in samples to see if you can write a story within the limits.

Hi, I was wondering about samples for writers. The guidelines mentions these can't be NSFW, which I totally get, but I was wondering if that was only the case for sexual situations or if things like a fic that discusses suicidal tendencies was allowed as sample as long as it has a warning at the start?
Hello! Sensitive content such as suicidal tendencies is permitted with content warnings. For this in particular, please avoid gore and graphic descriptions on page. Samples should follow all other guideline requirements.
This applies for other non-sexual NSFW content such as violence and dark themes.

The guidelines say that submissions have to be SFW but that the overall portfolio can have NSFW content as long as you indicate so in your application. But that question on the application says to indicate which sample the warning applies to, implying that NSFW, gore, etc is allowed.
Sorry for the questions, I just wanted to make sure I’m following the proper instructions!
Hello! Samples should be SFW (i.e. rated T by AO3 standards). Curated portfolios should stay SFW & T-rated, but if your portfolio is a link to an external source (like a social media or AO3 site), any NSFW content must be adequately warned for. Thank you!

I'm curious since the Riordan verse technically includes both the Percy Jackson books (all three series) and the show, will the zine feature the LA show versions as well as the book? Or only focus on the book canon? Very silly question but I'm curious!
Unwound will focus on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and House of Olympus. We're open to both book and TV show versions of the characters! Thank you for your question 😊

Have you considered expanding the word count allotment for writer contributors? I noticed submissions must be 1k-2k when they open, which is a little short for many writers (in my experience as a writer and contributor). Would you consider going to 2.5k or 3k?
We'd love to depending on interest! Higher word counts result in higher page counts, which increase our project costs, so we'll increase the word count based on our IC responses—that means you should help us share the word 😉 (pun intended)

Hey! This looks super cool, but I was wondering if you could go a bit more into how this concept is going to work and the kinds of AUs that may be included in it? I’ve read all the available information and it still seems kind of vague to me so I’d love to have a little more context if possible :)
Of course! Our goal is to feature writers & their work, so each writer will be paired with a spot artist who will draw elements of the writer's work to life. Our formatting mod will then use this to decorate the writer's piece so it stands out on the page!
Page artists will also be paired with a writer's AU. Rather than draw scenes from the story itself, these pieces will function as snapshots in that AU world: for example, if the writer's AU features Mage!Annabeth, perhaps the page art would show Jason, Leo, & Piper engaged in a different magical battle, or perhaps Nico simmering a cauldron, or even a map of the magical world.
In terms of specific AUs, we leave that up to our writers! Upon acceptance, our writers will pitch for different AUs & our mod team will select them. We're aiming for something fantastical (think fae, magic, or dragons) & we're sure our writers won't disappoint. Hello! This zine will mainly focus on characters and content from Percy Jackson & the Olympians, and Heroes of Olympus. Elements of other Riordanverse series (Trials of Apollo, Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, any crossover books, etc. may be included but will not be main features.
