Hi, anon! Thanks for such an interesting question. :) After thinking about it, I was reminded of a book called Convenience Store Woman. You might have read it already or at least be familiar with it. In a way, this book changed how I see happiness and ambition. Well, I used to believe that happiness had to look ambitious like... I needed to work hard, climb higher, and prove I was successful, even if it meant sacrificing my own happiness and true desires. I thought that was the only way to show I was living according to society’s norms. The book gently challenged that belief, especially the idea that fulfillment must come from career growth, marriage, or constant productivity.
After reading it, I realized that my own happiness should be my top priority. As long as I live well, there’s no real need to please anyone else. I also used to think that if I wasn’t successful, it meant I had failed or was somehow broken. But this book made me understand that functioning differently doesn’t mean being damaged. Some people simply operate on a different frequency and that difference doesn’t need fixing.
There’s no point in comparing my life to others, because everyone starts from a different place. And it’s okay not to be as ambitious as everyone else.
