It asks for 3 samples of poetry for poetry applicants. Does that mean poets can't apply for the other 2 types of writing? Or is there flexibility if a writer is interested in all 3 types?
Hello Anon,
Not at all, any writer can apply for any type. We recommend to have samples to be the writing position you want the most and the portfolio should contain samples for the other positions you’re applying for. In other words, we will consider you for your first option but will read included samples in the portfolio to get a sense of any other positions you apply to.
Is it okay if someone who already submitted an application edits the submission form while applications are still going? The email I got has the option to edit the form, so I was wondering if it would be okay as long as the deadline hasn't hit yet. Totally understandable if it's not OK though! Thank you so much!
Hi Anon,
Yes! You are allowed to make edits to any of your applications until the deadline has hit, which will be April 21st around 10 am EST.
Should we expect all results to be sent on the same date (page artists, writers, and merch artists)? Or will the merch artist results be sent earlier due to the earlier application deadline?
Hi anon,
You are correct! Merch artist results have been sent to everyone last night.
Since the apps for artists and writers are still open utill the 21st, results will be sent out April 27th.
What's the mod team's feelings on canon scene writes as part of the samples? Like taking an actual canon scene and digging into the characters' thoughts, feelings, and experiences during those scenes.
Hi Anon,
We encourage fics that study characters in canonical scenes. It is a prefect way to showcase how you interpret the character's thoughts and feelings. More importantly it also shows how much of an understanding you have of the character!
So I have a question about writer applications. It says one of the samples has to be a completed work under 2k, but I tend to write longer form content and the shortest one I have is around 4.3k. I know the word count for the zine has to be under 2k, but does only having longer fics mean I can't submit an application?
Hi! Thank you for your interest in writing for The Missing Act! You are welcome to apply with three excerpts, though the lack of a complete fic under 2k will likely be factored into our decision making process. We ask for a short form piece because we know that is what will be expected of writers who ultimately join this zine, and we would like to accept writers who have proof that they are capable of telling a story in a given word count.
We love both short and long form fics, but they do require slightly different skill sets. That said, our recommendation is to take the next few weeks before the applications close to create a short-form piece for your first sample, then use longer excerpts for your second and third.
Thank you again for your interest! We look forward to reading your application!
How will this zine navigate ships? I’m worried characters like Mel may be sidelined in this project, only for it to become another jayvik zine. Will meljay be given love and the same amount of attention as any other relationship in the show? Will fanon ships be highlighted?
Thank you for your questions. Since this is an Arcane Zine we will make sure to have a diverse show of characters and ships. We will be accepting all ships except those that are underage and incest. So no worries, Meljay will be defiantly be getting love!
