after reading MM š¦(10/10 im recommending it to everyone) i was curious about your thoughts on soulmates. Even though we donāt have soulmarks etc. irl, do you think that people really do have someone just for them that fit together like puzzle pieces. Or do you think that we meet people solely by chance and itās up to us to build & maintain a relationship so even though you mightāve āmet your soulmateā you can miss your chance if you dont do something or will fate always bring those people together?
Hi! Thank you for this cool question and also for being this kind to MM ^^
I do believe in the concept of soulmates but I donāt think that itās the kind of predestinated-set-in-stone thing that JK sees it as in MM - I believe that we all have a number of different possible soulmates scattered around the world and that we need to āactivateā them to get the magic to work. So Iām more of a believer of the soulmates are made idea. I think that putting in the work, growing together with a person and molding our personalities to theirs is what really creates those special bonds āØ
In soulmate AUs I actually enjoy exploring unconventional tropes more - like Vmin in this story who decided to chose each other despite not being soulmates in a world where everyone is eager to find their destined partner. When I started to come up with MM I initially didnāt plan on making it a soulmate AU. The reason I opted for this solution was that I couldnāt imagine a realistic scenario where someone with JKās condition would have been so ready to pursue a romantic relationship with someone they met after the accident. The soulmate aspect is what makes JK feel secure enough to let himself have this. Also, I couldnāt imagine his family and friends supporting him moving in with a stranger without the soulmate bonus.
I did grow to enjoy exploring this trope though, especially SJās conflicted opinions and the differences between his and JKās viewpoints š¦ā¤ļøš°
